"Your Grass Is Greener" WIP

Alright! So I spent a few grueling hours over this weekend working on an embroidery piece for Light Gallery + Studio's Fiber Arts exhibition for Art Downtown. Starts Saturday, April 8th and noon! But the exhibition will be up for a month in the space.

Thought it would be fun to document the process and share a few pictures from the week! But first, a little about the piece itself:

I wanted to take an opportunity to express the woman v. woman hostility and aggression that has become so prevalent in our culture today. Embroidery is a traditionally feminine craft and the imagery used reflects both the feminine quality of the medium and symbols of envy.

This is the first step of the process, I brain storm in my sketchbook, decide on a final design and draw it onto the canvas with disappearing ink.

A shot of the "guts" (back of the piece) and the front of the other, both in progress. I like to work one color at a time. The palette was established around greed and jealousy, yellow and green have been categorized as the color of envy for years.

The whole piece together and hung on the wall!

Thank you so much to Light Gallery + Studio for the opportunity. Can't wait for the things to come. Stay tuned for my next WIP. Up next is a window design for Stella's Lounge honoring The Drunken Retort's 4th anniversary show April 24th.

Until next time, stay spooky!
